Glad I made a post worth reading though.
Regarding that stunted trees line, I sort of nicked it from a series of books called Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, namely the fourth book, Kushiel's Scion. The imagery in the PV reminded me heavily of it though, so I figured it'd work slightly better than yet another damn drug reference :P -
