Yeah, they're right about that. I'm a Yankees fan, and I still think walking around in Yankees gear is lame. I'll pretend to like other teams, just so I can wear a baseball cap in public.
That said, if you're friends with the Yankees star pitcher, then you're probably exempt from that rule. -
